West Haven, located in Weber County about 35 miles north of Salt Lake City, has a population of around 11,000. The Weber and Ogden rivers converge in the northeastern part of the city, and well-maintained parks abound, including Country Park, Stonefield Park, Sports Park, Country Haven Park, Fair Grove Park, and Holmes Estates Park.
Residents look forward to a number of community events, including the West Haven Heritage Days held each June. This celebration includes a 5K run, youth and adult rodeo, baby contest, bike ride, parade, stick-horse race, booths, vendors, games, entertainment, fireworks, and a
car show. Residents also enjoy an annual “Heart of the Holidays” in December, which begins with the lighting of City Hall and a visit from Santa. An annual Pumpkin Walk is held in October, with candy stations along a pumpkin path and prizes for the best Halloween costumes.
The city offers youth sports such as baseball, softball, football, lacrosse, and tennis. The Junior Posse provides an opportunity for kids to saddle up and be a part of a horseback riding group. West Haven has also developed a Youth City Council to allow high-school age youth an opportunity to be involved in politics and community service. Among other activities, the Youth City Council organizes an annual Easter Egg Hunt, designs and builds the West Haven City Float for the Ogden Christmas Parade, creates and manages an annual Halloween Spook Alley, and plans and manages the children’s games for the annual West Haven Heritage Days Celebration.
Abundant opportunities for recreation are within a short drive from West Haven, including the nearby
Roy Aquatic Center and
Hill Aerospace Museum. Ogden offers
iFLY Indoor Skydiving, the
Children’s Treehouse Museum, Union Station, Dinosaur Park, and plenty of other entertainment options and top-notch restaurants. Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty of hiking, biking, camping, hunting, fishing, and more.
Waterfall Canyon is a popular trail. For those who enjoy skiing or snowboarding, a host of world-class resorts are within driving distance, including
Nordic Valley, Powder Mountain, and
Snowbasin.
